From birth to 4 months parents can use repositioning techniques and increase tummy time in an attempt to allow to head to reshape naturally. Unfortunately for many different reasons this is either not possible or it is not as effective as hoped. Fortunately from the ages of 4 months to 18 months while the babies head is still flexible, helmet therapy can be used and is very successful.

The helmets allows the baby's head to grow into the voids purposely manufactured to reshape the head without using any pressure. Traditionally the sooner a helmet is provided the more successful helmet therapy tends to be. The helmets are worn for 22- 23 hours a day and are not painful for the baby.
Understandably parents are often unsure if helmet therapy is suitable for their child. Orthotics UK provide a free assessment where we will discuss treatment options, take scans ,measurements and offer free advice.
If your child is deemed suitable for helmet therapy we will manufacture a helmet that is specifically designed and bespoke for your child’s head. The manufacturing time is very quick and the helmet will need replacing with growth. Typically three helmets are needed during the treatment course but this will depend on the amount of initial flattening, the child's age and compliance.
